WIW WI Meeting Minutes
For November 9th, 2017
Held at Paris Fairgrounds
The ability to laugh at ourselves and others is an exceptionally powerful thing. Comedian Lewis Black once said that the problem with the ‘enemy’ is that somewhere along the way they lost the ability to laugh. Once you lose the ability to laugh, inhumanity slowly creeps in and corrodes the soul.
Roll Call: What makes us really laugh? Some say life’s everyday occurrences. Laughing at ourselves. GIFs and Auto-corrects. Watching a favorite TV program.
Michelle Sanderson introduced our; No time to think negative Mother of four, Farmer, Cancer surviving 82 years young guest Helen Hack.
Helen Hack shared her life tales of “Air Pies” and “Going to the Gym”. Along with a very comedic version of The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs told from the Wolf’s point of view.
Susan Stulan did a fun mixer involving everyone getting up and moving around to find out which WI members have; traveled, were educators, had 3 or more siblings, lived in Brant county over 25yrs, volunteer, is retired, is on executive committee, children under age 5. It was a great way to discover common grounds and get to know new members.

Divine Diner’s meet November 24th at Susan Felice’s house.
Elaine Tully, Advocacy, based on the expressed wishes of our members we have chosen the food bank, Nova Vita, Crossing All Bridges, and St. Leonard’s Crisis Dept. and Youth Program for our community giving. Next Advocacy meeting will be Thursday November 30th at Paris Presbyterian Church 7pm in the “Den”. Items to discuss for that meeting will be 1 brave night.
When new members register, they are asked to mention on their enrollment form if they were referred to the WI by a present member. Outstanding referral members are recognized with an Award. Recruitment Awards go out to: Janice Kyle, Racheal Addison, Stephanie Pile, Kim McCulloch, Hailey Jones.
We are considering a ritual for or meeting opening that is consistent. The traditional WI uses the Mary Stewart Collect and the Wi Ode. The Ode is traditionally sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne but can also be said. It is a s follows:
A goodly thing is to meet a in friendship’s circle bright,
Where nothing dims the pleasure sweet, nor dims the radiant light.
No unkind words our lips shall pass, nor envy sour the mind.
But each shall seek the common weal, the good of all mankind.
We were asked to PM Elaine Tully, President our thoughts to keeping this Ode and to begin using it at our meetings or come up with an idea of our own.
A new member to our group but not new to WI expressed her thoughts on how the Ode would keep us united with WI all around the world.
Next Meeting is Thursday December 14th. Craft Group will be hosting. It will be a nice relaxing night, Holiday music playing in the background, festive snacks and easy to make and take greeting cards and gift tags. Everyone is asked to bring adhesive like glue sticks or tape runner, or double-sided tape. Business will be first (briefly) then the second half will be the crafty part.
Giving will be St. Leonard’s youth program- hats, mitts, Tim’s cards, personal items, stocking stuffing ideas. These items go into stockings for youth who have nobody to share Christmas with, and will not otherwise have gift.
